The torn heart: ICU chaplaincy
Based on Joel 2:12-13You are a volunteer chaplain with advanced theological training serving in a public hospital. Today, you were called to visit Marcos, a 35-year-old man admitted to the ICU with severe endocarditis, a heart infection caused by chronic intravenous drug use. Marcos has lost contact with his family, is physically very weak, and uses sharp cynicism as an emotional shield. He knows evangelical vocabulary from previous stays in Christian rehabilitation clinics, but is completely disillusioned with faith, religion, and himself. He believes he is a lost cause. Your mission is to present the message of Joel 2:12-13 with faithfulness and sensitivity, helping Marcos understand the difference between external manifestations of repentance and a true change of heart before God.
